¿Qué es diseñar hoy?

Design means many self-contradictory things. In fact, it is impossible and inadvisable to reduce it to a singularity. Like the word 'economy', this reduction makes the assumption that it has just one (dominant) meaning, one way of performing it, one register of social and cultural value and one form of self-representation. Some design abandons itself to the most uncritical, unreflexive impulses and there is sometimes a degree naivety in the academic and professional design worlds. But there is also some really interesting activity going on, especially at its edges. Sometimes this comes from that action-oriented naivety, which may be a positive thing. Ultimately, for me, design culture describes a range of values, relationships and cognitive processes that are closely tied to many ways by which capitalism is practised. That is why it is so fascinating to study.
